Counterculture Critique

I found it difficult to hear some of the underlying truths in Guante's 10 responses. Especially the line where he talks about boys wearing blue socks, girls wearing pink socks. At such an early age children are packaged and created a certain way instead of being "different." And I think that this just keeps repeatedly happening because its "tradition" or thats their "upbringing." We tell our children stuff at such an early age "its ok, don't cry" and they listen. When they mature and get older they have this mentality of "man up" and I feel as though this is an unfair image portrayed by the media and unsaid standards to be met. Men are victims and have emotions too, not just women.

My Cumberland Valley High I’m from a rich suburban area on a 7-mile pike with shopping malls and car stores on both sides. I’m from an area where 99% of families make over $700k as their annual salary. I’m from a city where the population triples in size every year.                         Where everyone drives cars that cost more than my parents annual salary.                         Where people value things over social interaction.                         Where people are so invested on looks and brands. Critique #4 - Video Games

In the video by  Anita Sarkeesian she describes the different components of how women are seen and portrayed in video games. I do not play video games, however I have seen ads in New York City and other metropolitan areas for major video games like Grand Theft Auto which is a racing game but legitimately degrades women and police officers. Although it does have a explicit rating most parents of children have no knowledge of the true meaning behind this racing game.  “ At the same time that we allow our children to be sexualized, we refuse to educate them about sex.  The United States is the only developed nation in the world that doesn’t teach sex education in the schools.  And our children pay a very high price we have the highest rates of teen pregnancy and the highest rates of sexually transmitted illnesses by far, in the developed world.” In this quote it relates to what Sarkeesian was saying, these women are portrayed so negatively that kids think its ok to be around or to im
